When trying to create a pseudonym with a -
i get an error

Create a pseudonym

The pseudonym should contain only lower-case letters, numbers, period, hyphen and underscore and should start with a lower-case letter or number. For example "sales", "john.holland", "123" and "email-administrator" are all valid pseudonyms, but "John Smith" and "Henry Miller" are not.
You can also create email aliases for accounts and (virtual) domains that are valid on this server. For example "fred@virtualdomain.com" can be forwarded to "mary" (or to another valid user account).

I had problems with email previously which i beleive is reolved but i wonder if there is something left hanging around?

if minus sign is refused this is a bug.

check the logs, you might already have a user or user-deleted by that name

if so, then the error "Error occurred while creating pseudonym in database.
Create, modify, or remove pseudonyms" is not helpfull. we might change this to 'h-name' is already in use.
