Time for RC2?
« on: August 08, 2026, 08:54:56 AM »
During last update to SME 11 RC1, there were over a GIG of updates, should we not roll them into RC2?

Good morning all,
Has anyone tried loading the RC1 into a VM (testing purposes)? We've been using SME for many years (current SME 10.1), one of the easiest to manage/install.
Also curious as to the proposed release timeframe for the full release? :)
Regards,
Team at CPITS

Very unlikely a RC2 :-)

The back room boys have been using a test full release last couple of week, so its that close

RC1 in a VM has been used for testing since released. If you used the current iso very large number of updates that reflects the work done last few months, in the order of  >1.5gb

There are a few adventurous individuals who have the RC1 in a prod environment in small scale situations, not recommended yet so at ones peril

Afternoon TerryF,
Have loaded the RC1 on a spare system seems to be running quite well however trying to restore from a backup made from a 10.1 not recognising a USB (nor from a mapped network drive either).
Will try some of the workarounds.
Regards,
CPITS :)

Have been able to do restores of 10.1 backups as tests, as always USB often hardware and brand dependent,

Mapped drive? Not something have tried in past. Is this from backup restore in SM

Is the USB backup restoring at the first boot during initial install?

and just to show why, test, test and test again is so important got this close and John Crisp found an issue with disabling remote access and then enabling to all internet, needed a service restart from a cli or reboot when it should have just restarted in the background, just enabling was fine, the disable and reenable was the trip wire :-) , has been there all along

A very small change to an event action and was good, i's being doted and t's crossed now

Yes, I am testing on VM.
If you have any questions regarding install on VM, I have created this how-to:

No, relates to WAN enable/disable.

If you are having issues on the restore pelase describe the what and how eg

Stand alone Hardware or VM
Backup created from 10.1 using the console backup option to a removeable drive or ?
Restore attempted when installing sme11 at first reboot when the option is presented to restore from a backup or ?

Other musinsg, brand of device, flash or removebale HD

Hopefully you have been successful
