Domain Join - Windows 11
« on: August 24, 2026, 06:16:03 PM »
I've spent a month or two trying to join a Window 11 Work station to our existing SME 10.1
Time to move on and try with the SME11 RC version, now set up with latest updates. Still having the same issues.
The mission here is to produce a guide for others in the same predicament, unable to join a W11 machine to an SME server AD DC.
Joining with W10 the upgrading to W11 has bypassed the issue.
Predominantly, the reported error is that W11 can not resolve the SRV record for the PDC.
Any one with insight on how to address this issue and help produce a step by step guide with tests to prove/disprove
functions in the registration process are warmly invited...
All's well that ends.

Hi Stefano.

Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the contribs.
I'm looking for some guidance on installing the appropriate options to enable DC for W11.
This is what I see, do I elect all of these options?

Many thanks

select smeserver-samba-dc only, it will check the dependencies and install what's needed

Hi Stefano

The contrib does not install, see the attached.
Is this a bug or maybe something I've overlooked?

Thanks again

Please, follow the instruction you find in the wiki.
AFAIKS you need at least one repository which is missing in your setup

Using the sme11 COPR install from the cli in a terminal on a RC1 VM proceeded as expected

Installed OK

No further testing done apart from the install
