VPN Windows XP home and workgroups
« on: September 25, 2002, 05:23:03 PM »
Hi everybody,
I have a VPN connection over our SME server into a local network. Therfore I can ping and tcp and http within this network (e.g. access the SMEserver-manager, but I am not able to see the computers in the windows workgroup of the local net.
In the outer net I am in a workgroup with the same name.
What's wrong?

TIA

Jo

At a guess take a look at port 137, see if the MS networking information is even being propagated.

I believe I am in the net and everything from tcpip is propagated over  vpn to my computer. I have enabled netbios over tcp on my pc.

XP home doesn't support LAN connections to a fileserver thus although you should be able to connect to a VPN you won't be able to see mapped drives, etc.
