No HTTPD response after 5.5 Update2
« on: September 25, 2002, 08:12:07 PM »
Hello all... I ran through the SME 5.5 Update 2 last night.  Everything seemed to work fine. I downloaded the rmp's, ran:
    rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs *.rpm
    /sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
    /sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot
as root.  To make sure the update installed I tried "rpm -q SMEServer" and got "SMEServer-5.5_Update2-10" so, it looks to me like everything installed correctly.

The problem is... I cannot get to ANY of my virtual domains that I host!

I have checked my IP address and have check my hosting service - everything is the way it should be.  I've check the configurations I know to check and everything is fine - but still no httpd response.

SUGGESTIONS???  I need to get this fixed!

Hi,

There seems to be alot of postings on this bulletin board about issues with Update 2 in 5.5.  I assume by your 2nd post that you updated successfully bar a hardware issue.

I haven't implemented the Update2 because of the issues on the boards.  Can you and others reply with successful experiences please before I take the plunge.

Regards
Ron :-)

Well, hundreds of systems, including all of our internal systems, upgraded
fine. We do test our software, after all, and the content of the update
our paying customers apply is identical to that which we provide to
our GPL users. If Update2 broke things, we'd have a powerful incentive
to fix it quickly.

There have been very few bug reports on Update2, and no critical ones I
can think of, so I'm not sure which issues you're referring to.

However, your system is currently a vector for the Slapper worm, because
you haven't applied the OpenSSL update that patches the security
vulnerability by which it propagates. Since your system will start attacking
other systems once it gets infected, you should consider disconnecting it
from the Internet until you are ready to apply the fix.

(There's an advisory about the worm on www.e-smith.org.)

Cheers,

Beside's my hardware issue (which just happened to coincide with the update2 patch) I have had no problems with the software updates myself. The install went very well, and took about 5 minutes.
