I try install e-smith in PC Compaq EVO. The installation that not complete. The error is:

 Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:42.

Any one can tell me whats the problem..?

Hi

Compaq, generally (always?), keep the bios setup info on a small partition on the HD. My experience is that you will not get it to go. (because that info aint there no more :-< ) However you could try booting from the boot-floppy. Assuming your compaq bios defaults to booting from the boot floppy first.
