Does anyone know if there is a piece of software for linux that will allow you to send a popup window or banner to anyone on a lan network.  want to be able to send to specific ip's or everyone on lan.  looking for a way to broadcast messages to employees about special events, mettings and such. any suggestions are appreciated.

Are you referring to the "net send" functionality of Windows NT using the Windows Network Messenger Service?  They would have to be on a NT4/2000/XP machine to receive these messages, I don't believe 95/98/ME support the Network Messenger Service.  I tried to google some results for Samba sending network messages but I couldnt' find any.  The best I could find was an accouncement from 1999 concerning Samba's ability to handle network messages.
