how to limit download speed to some clients?
« on: October 08, 2002, 03:01:52 PM »
Hi,

Is there any possibility to limit the bandwidth or download speed to specific user behind e-smith firewall ?

I have some users, playing with edonkey and kazaaa, and would like to slow them down.

Regards, Miceni

Hi,
Search your server for cbq-init.

It's a script that allows BW limiting.

Hi

try "updatedb", command used by "locate" ; it will work for some minutes

then do "locate cbq", it will give you any file containing "cbq"

it's in standard SME 5.5 ; I didn't check it before ; Anyway it's just a external script for using more difficult commands for QOS.

it has its website in linuxforge if I'm not doing mistakes.

Have a nice day

sorry, i dont speak english

cbq init is in;

/sbin/cbq

and the config files must be located in /etc/sysconfig/cbq
read the file cbq,  this explain how to use it

and just add this line in /etc/rc.d/rc.local for start cbq:
/sbin/cbq start

Hi , everybody.

Obviously it can be done to limit the bandwidth for some ipd on my internal network, nut I'm to much novice in linux, to know how could be done. So, can someone show me the way how to limit the bandwidth for example user 172.1.0.43 ?

TIA, Miceni

Miceni,
If you look through this forum, u'll find a how-to on CBQ.  It's very, very easy to understand, and show you how to limit individual IP address, as well as ports and other "fun" things  :-)

I've personally used this how-to, and it worked first time.  I use if for a sharing an ADSL connection between 5 ppl via wireless networking.  If you want a copy of my cbq files, please e-mail off topic.
