Stalled internet connection?
« on: October 28, 2002, 02:35:12 AM »
Hi...

me again :)

Wondering if anyone had some experience with a hanging internet connection?

System is set up so the
NE2000 - internal network
3com 509 - cable modem

SME 5.5 with the update

It seems that the 3com will sometime loose connection for some unknown reason. Looking through the log files usually reveals nothing (except the ntpd service has lost synchro) or that the last thing was  DCP ACK for eth1 (the 3com)

I thaught that it was the Duplex mode, which I have turned off, but I'm still a having the same difficulties. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thx

That's the problem... There is no error message... Here is a sample

Oct 28 09:22:59 CapitaineDeTreville identd[1750]: Returned: 61006 , 25 : NO-USER

Oct 28 09:48:16 CapitaineDeTreville ntpd[1215]: synchronisation lost

But since 9:46, internet connection was lost. Even on the server itself (using lynx). I don't have a clue what is wrong... and it's not my provider since the router linksys maintains a connection no matter what .... no internet access later on either, even after a ifdown, ifup and masq restart (even on the server itself)

My only clue is a hw space error, or irq error? How can I check the irq usage under sme?

Have you tried changing the NIC?

I've goot the same problem. But why a new NIC?
Things worked fine until I upgraded to 5.5 with all patches.

can't help you there

Even with a new nic, the problem is still present... Probably something got broken in the 5.5 using the dhcpcd client?

LP,
In your email you mentioned the following:

"you might want to check your ifup script file and add
"-r" (without the quotes) in your dhcp arguments."

As I use dsl with a non-static IP, I think I was losing the connection when the IP was renewed. Since making this adjustment, and no others(none!), I have not lost the connection...ever. I am curious to see the previous ifup that was in 5.1.2. If I get a chance to reload an 'extra' machine, I'll post back the differences in the files.
