How to set up email retrieval

Hello;

I've searched the forum but can't seem to find the answer to this question: how do you set up the server to gather multiple email accounts from a hosting service?

Let's say company 'a' sets up an e-smith server. They use a hosting service (not their ISP) to host a web site - www.b.com. They also have a dialup account with ISP 'c'. What I want to do is set up internal email but also set up e-smith to get email from multiple accounts on the web hosting server.

So when I set up e-smith and it asks to be given a domain name, do I call the server 'www.a.com', or 'www.b.com'? (I don't think 'c' has anything to do with it.) And since the email retrieval screen only seems to take information about the POP server, how does e-smith know what usernames and passwords to pass to the host server? Do I have to set up the internal accounts to exactly match the usernames and passwords of the web-hosted accounts?

I hope this makes sense - I just can't seem to find a step-by-step document that covers this.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Thank you for the link, but I still don't know how to set this up. Once I install the RPM - then what?

So each user has their own mail account with a separate provider? The easiest way is probably just to have the individual clients collect mail directly from that provider. SME is really designed for either hosting its own mail accounts or collecting from one POP account and distributing those to the proper SME users (I have no firsthand experience with this method.). There is an addon (Possibly the one linked to above.) that lets each user have a list of external accounts to fetch mail from. In this case, each user would have an SME account, and the SME would fetch their other mails into the SME accounts...

You choose whatever domain name you want the SME to have, usually a.com. If the SME isn't hosting the main website, you can use the Hostnames panel in Server Manager to point "www" at www.b.com instead.
