Topic: awstats and old log files

hi,
I installed awstats 1.0.0 some hour ago, and I see it doesn't process old log files
I'm running esmith since july 2002 and I have all the logs there, but awstats show no hits until some minutes ago when someone from the ouside entered the site.
is there any way to make it see the old logs?
or, is there any other way to see/analyse old logs appart from the log viewer that esmith has built in?

I thought that awstats worked on a modified version of the log that it generated as it went along so unless you could "convert" the old logs you would only get the new traffic.
