I have been using e-smith 3.0 patched to 3.1 since it 3.0 release. Over the whole time I have had to reboot every four to eight days when the email quits working (incoming and outgoing). The longest I have ever had it go without requiring a reboot is 20 days (I was amazed).
I know this isn't typical for Linux or for e-smith so I am wondering what might be wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to try to determine what the problem is. I am not new to Linux but I am by no means a real system administrator. Are there logs that might indicate why qmail stops? Is there a way to find out if it is qmail, fetchmail or something else that is causing the problem?
Currently I have my netscape account sending a daily email to my e-smith server so I know to reboot it when I don't get the email.
I have even reinstalled e-smith from scratch when upgrading a hard drive so I don't think it is an installation fluke.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
