FTP port forwarding
« on: November 18, 2002, 02:31:45 PM »
Hi,

First of all, thanks for SME Server. I use it to share my DSL connection and it is very easy, simple and efficient.

I have a SME Server 5.5 gateway-router with a proftpd server daemon running on port 21 reachable from Internet with login/pass.
Nevertheless, i have another ftp server ( warftpd on win2K ) running on an internal computer of my local network running also on port 21.
I would like to access to that internal ftp server ( warftpd ) from Internet on the port 2502 of the gateway.

So, i tried to give access to the internal ftp server by port forwarding the following ports on my server with dmc-mitel-portforwarding-0.0.1-5.noarch.rpm ( http://myezserver.com/downloads/mitel/contrib/portforwarding/) :

(sme server 5.5) port 2502 ---> port 21 (warftpd,win2k)
(sme server 5.5) port 2501 ---> port 20 (warftpd,win2k)

But it does not work at all.

Is there something I have not yet understood ????
Can someone help me, please ?

Thanks a lot for help

When you tested this were you on the internal or external interface?  Forwarding does not occur on the local interface.  You'll have to get someone external to test it for you.  As long as those 2 ports are set to forward to the correct internal IP then everything should be working.

PS-make sure you have WarFTPd listening on the correct port.

Also, you can share files on the Windows box and mount them on the SME, allowing you to access those files via the SME's FTP server. It was mentioned in a thread a while back...
