Can't install using boot disk (newbie)
« on: November 23, 2002, 01:51:59 PM »
When i install the software using a boot disk, it hangs before setup can begin every single time. I have swapped CDROM drives and hard drives and have created new boot disks but the problem always appears. The error message reads as follows

Partition Check:
  hda: hda1
hdc: Lost interrupt
hdc: Lost interrupt
hdc: Lost interrupt
VFS: Cannot open root device 08:42
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:42

how do i fix this?

what you got in the way of harddrives installed - is it IDE, SCSI, RAID ? You are using the boot floppy I see, have you tried booting from cd or does the motherboard not support that in the bios settings?

the hard drive is IDE, the motherboard does not support cdroms in the bios settings
