Hi

I'm having a problem with SMTPFWDD not starting and blocking further boot.
I can however boot single and wanted to look in the log files to see whats the problem.

But 'cause I'm new to Linux, don't nkow the command..

All (well most of them anyway) the log files are in /var/log
One of the easiest ways is to use midnight commander - type 'mc' from the command line. MC is a gui (text based) file manager for *nix. Highlighting a file and hitting F3 will view it.

You can also view them in server manager,

Administration/View log files and select the one you want

If you are like me and believe that the command line is all well and good and we should all know how it works but we don't travel by steam train anymore have a look at this little add-on

http://www.e-smith.org/contrib/rpm-index/RPM-logcheck-1.1.1-1.src.html

It adds log checking to the SME console.  Now that's technology.

Cheers,

...except, Andrew, that logcheck won't do what he's wanting to do.  The "view log files" panel in the server manager would, if he were able to boot a network-capable system.  The command line, via mc or other means, certainly would.  From the description of the RPM you mentioned (and also from my memory of it), it e-mails you periodically of security-related log entries.
