desperate... I'd like to add IPX support
« on: December 11, 2002, 03:26:45 PM »
Hi,

I'm very desperate, cause I know so little about Linux ;(

Anyway, as i searched around the web and read a lot, I hopefully found a solution for my problem (id like to see my Novell 4.11 server's drive through VPN from e-smith 5.5). AFAIK there is built-in IPX support in Red Hat 7.3. E-smith doesn't have this support enabled by default. S I should recompile it's kernel and add IPX support. OK, no problem.
...
But, I'm novice Linux user and I don't know to do that. I don't know what else do I need to recompile (well i D/L-ed make, glib, cpp, and kernel source), and mostly hot to recompile. Has someone done that already and is willing to share that experience with me, please ?

I will be thankfull forever.

Regards, Miceni

I don't know much more than you, but all current releases (pre-5.6) use the 2.2 kernel (from RH 7.1 I think) if that affects your plans at all. http://myezserver.com/downloads/mitel/contrib/dev-tools/ has everything you need for compiling stuff.

I'd guess that you'll need to make a lot of changes to make the SME do anything useful with the IPX traffic, not just recompile one thing and slap it in. You're probably getting yourself into a lot of work...

Hello Miceni,

Why do you not support IP ad your Novell server

You work at least whit 3.12 whith all 2k patches are whit 4.x are 5.x

Go to the server console en load the config programm

server console> LOAD INETCFG

If you run this for the first time it ask you for the AUTOEXEC.NCF file to all rulles off you network programm's and take these to the INETCFG programm.

Walk to the screens and fill in what you now and what the server ask. of course the IP number en mask for the server if you don't now a question press allways on F1 in these config programm off novell. Don't forget the bindings menu to bind a protocall on a board.

If you have done al these you can test de IP support on your Novell server thrue the command LOAD PING IP-nummer (first off your novell server second off your SME box)

Make in you DNS off you SME box a new hostname to the new IP number off your novell server.

In your Novell sever is IP ready.

Goodluck

Johan

PS. If you have trouble whith your Novell box try to read more information on the Novell site and search whith keywords like IPCFG IP configuration ect.
