Network card error "eth0 Something wicked hap
« on: May 10, 2000, 12:01:37 PM »
I get a strange message on my console screen that indicates

"eth0 Something wicked happened 1081"
"eth0 Something wicked happened 1081"
"eth0 Something wicked happened 1083"
"eth0 Something wicked happened 1083"
"eth0 Something wicked happened 1081"

This message gets written on top of the console screen.  The error message occurs
when I am copying a large amount of data to the e-smith shared i-bay - 800 MB
of data.  What is happenning?

Also sometimes the workstation that is doing the
transfer will get "the blue screen of death" - this does not coincide with the error
messages on the e-smith console.

Your network card probably doesn't handle collisions well. Or you have a problem with your network cabling. Do you have a different network card that you can try?

Probably the same problem, but your workstation operating system is not as carefully code :-)

Thanks for the response.

Which cards handle collisions better?

I tried using a 3com 3905c and also a Dlink dfe-530-tx which are 10/100.  Connected to a
10/100 Dlink 8 port hub.  Workstation is a 10 mbs network card.  The 10/100 cards connect
at 100 - could this generate the problem.
