looking at the specs on the Sun site theres no reason why it shouldnt be possible - care to buy me the $500 licence and I'll try it out for you :-)

never mind the $500 licence - I'm downloading the "developer" version at the moment :-)  Will have a go and get back to you tomorrow unless somebody else replies first.

I tried installing the developer version a week or two back and could not get it to go.  I do not remember the errors I got when I tried installing it, but I thought maybe it was a problem with the kernal being an older kernal in 5.5.  I have downloaded the beta for 5.6 and burned the CD, but have not had time to get back to loading it on my test machine and trying it out.  Hopefully by weeks end I will get to it.  If anyone gets it to go I would love to have a simple how-to! :-)  Otherwise I will keep fiddling with it.

just begun to investigate the install procedure - theres no mention so far of particular kernel requirements. There is specific mention of it modifying the httpd.conf file for apache though which obviously wont work as it will be overwritten when the server restarts. That needs modified to work with the template system.

Quick question for Tony - you did stop your apache servers before trying to install the software? Just checking as it only appeared in one txt file I've read so far that you were supposed to do that.

I didn't notice that part in the instructions.  I figured if you do not install the apache which is bundled in, you could look at the changes it made to the config file and then template them.  I didn't get into the install very far before I had an error and I didn't have any more time to really delve into it.  I think when I ran the install.sh I got an error before it even got to step one.   Something like a file was missing.  Maybe I got the error because I did not stop apache before running the install.  Let me know how you fare.  I hope to work on this in the next day or two.

Here is the system requirements for the ASP module from the Sun web site -

# Linux (Intel) Kernel 2.2, GLIBC 2.1.2 to 2.1.94

I am not sure what version e-smith is on.

afaik e-smith 5.5 is based on kernel 2.2.19 and e-smith 5.6 is kernel v 2.4 and my current 5.5 install uses glibc-2.2.4-24 which is obviously newer than the required status. Sorry havent finished playing with the install - been left shorthanded last 2 days and been a bit busy to delve into it further.

I tried to install using 5.5 without a good responce

But the best and faster solution is change to mandrake 8.1 or redhat 7.2
