I installed the e-smith-server 3.0 and it works fine. It is quite easy to install some RPMs from the Red Hat or the Star Office Sheduler.

Im working for a vocational shool and we have to use MS-Outlook there. As far as I know, Outlook supports the LDAP standard and also the vCalendar protokoll. There should be a way to have an access to the e-smith mail-server.

I dont want to use Microsofts Exchange Server, so I need a solution for the e-smith.

Hi Karl,  The e-smith server supports SMTP, POP3 and IMAP so yes you can use Outlook to get your email from the e-smith server.  Below is a link to the Microsoft site with instructions on how to set this up depending on your version of Outlook.

As for the LDAP, you can also check the microsoft site as I do believe they offer an add on for the Outlook client to support this.  E-smith does support LDAP for the e-mail addresses.

install outlook in Internet mode or corporate mode if you need full MAPI support.  When you get to setting the services choose Internet email and enter your e-smith servers IP address for the incoming POP mail and outgoing SMTP mail server.  For LDAP directory add the LDAP service, enter your e-smith server IP address again.
Not sure if v-card and v-calendar will work.

I found a free 3rd party add-on for outlook called messageware address book service that allows outlook to be run in corporate mode and use the ldap directory.  Without the program I had previously not been able to pull in the email address from the directory server.

if anybody knows of a way to not have to use a 3rd party program please email me.
