Logon from win98
« on: January 03, 2003, 01:51:32 AM »
Ok, I give up.

I cannot seem to get logged on to my server from a win98 computer.

I have:
Servergateway running and DHCP running.
Access to internet works from server and win98
Access to server via IE works.
mailserver works
Domain controller running

BUT. I cannot see the server in network neighborhood

I try to logon to the server and have setup a client for microsoft networks. This is then set to NT-logon : foxygroup

But I'm not allowed to logon to the server ??

Any help from previous posts has not solved the problem.

What do I need to write in the "Log onto windows NT domain" ?

workgroup:foxygroup
servername: foxyserver
domain: foxylogic.dnsalias.com

1. Have you verified that your SME server is configured to be in the same workgroup as the Win98 PC? In Server-Manager, under the Configuration panel, goto Workgroup and look to see if you server is set to the proper Windows workgroup.
2. At the Win98 login prompt, do you get 3 fields or only 2?
3. Make sure you have created a user account on the SME server for the username you are attemping to login on the Win98 box.
Hope this is of some value to you.

Hi Mike,
Thank for the input, did not solve the problem though.

>1. Have you verified that your SME server is configured to be in the same >workgroup as the Win98 PC? In Server-Manager, under the Configuration panel, >goto Workgroup and look to see if you server is set to the proper Windows >workgroup.
Yeps, its OK, and server name is foxyserver

>2. At the Win98 login prompt, do you get 3 fields or only 2?

I see 3 fields in the login box on win98. If I enter: "foxygroup" in the domain, the server refuses to log me on, gives me the message: domain access code wrong or logon denied by server (translated from danish, might be different wording in english!).

Looks like there is a bug in the connection when passing account details to the server ?

>3. Make sure you have created a user account on the SME server for the >username you are attemping to login on the Win98 box.

I have double checked that the account and password is ok on the E-smith server ?? Email is working for the accounts !!

What do I need to write in the "Log onto windows NT domain" ?

workgroup:foxygroup  <-domain for Windows ??
servername: foxyserver
Primary domain name: foxylogic.dnsalias.com

TIA
Mikkel
