I Have a small network running SME 5.5 I have no problems using the e-smith box to validate windows logins. Is there a way to have a macintosh use an e-smith box to validate a login. (Like a domain for windows)

Thanks,
Jim

It depends on the MacOS you're using.

With MacOS Classic yes it does support accounts but they're machine-specific ones, not server-based or validated against.

With MacOS X one can use external credentials with NIS, LDAP, or even theoretically Samba along with remote profiles. The best place to get more information would be http://www.macwindows.com where there is lots of discussion and reports of all sorts of Mac integration issues including with all of the above.

But really unless you've some strong need for server-based authentication and profiles you're likely looking at far more work then benefit, especially for a small network with just a few machines. Yes it's doable but likely to be far more effort then value.

YMMV
