Help configuring home email server
« on: January 10, 2003, 07:24:19 AM »
I am ignorant when it comes to setting up an email system. Here is what I want to accomplish with my SME Server:

1. Have my server get email from my ISP's POP server (mail.comcast.net)
2. Access the email from any workstation on my LAN via email client (Netscape and Outlook express)
3. My server should house the emails. I do not want a workstation to "download" the email to it's harddrive

I would appreciate a step-by-step on how to set this up.

Thanks,
Marvin

Rather than ignore your post (like most will), I will be courteous
and let you know why you won't see many responses to your request.
This forum is, for the most part, for asking specific questions and
getting help from peers.  What you are asking is quite a bit outside
of the scope of that.

It could literally take dozens of posts and hours or days to get
someone setup who doesn't have the basics down.  I suggest you go to
google before you get started and get up to speed on the
fundamentals, then try to start yourself. If you then come back with
a specific problem I think many will be glad to help you out.

Best of luck,

You can do all three with SME, but as stated above it will take a while to explain. Here are some palces to get started:

1. SME can do this. Read the manual and then search for specifics in the forums. There are many posts that will give you ore information.
2. No problem-o.
3. Setup all your clients to use IMAP instead of POP. IMAP leaves the email on the server.
