Topic: Strange profile/logon behaviour

I have a network of W2K workstations, roaming user profiles and SME 5.5 which for the most part works very well.  Users run netlogon and get a personal Z: mapped drive in the normal way.

However, one user recently complained that his files were missing from his Z: drive.  Upon investigation, I found that the system somehow created a directory named ._winprofile under his normal Z: drive and remapped that as his Z: drive.

i.e. - normally we have Z: = \server\user1
system changed this to Z: = \server\user1\._winprofile

I simply deleted the ._winprofile directory and all was well for several days - but then it happened again!

Has anyone seen this before or have any thoughts as to what might cause such bizarre behaviour?

Mark,

the ._winprofile is used when login under Win9x.
The userid is probably used sometimes to logon to a Win9x system?

Had to go away for a few days so lost touch with this thread.

Michael, thx for the reply.  All PCs run WIN2K only - no W98 anywhere near this site - very strange.  It's also happened to another user so looks like the Sherlock Holmes hat must be dusted off....

I think agot a solution for your problem.
You have to make a costum template for smb.conf and edit the

11logonHome

Just make an empty file with that name and replace it.
It worked for me, but be sure your clients are all win2k or higher.
