Topic: Server Extensions in an I-bay???

And I was wondering if anyone have tried this on E-smith 5.5 and especially in an I-bay???

Can I install the SE without crashing the other websites I already have and just use it in a new I-bay???

Anyone who have tried this at all???

WARNING!!!

I have tried installing FrontPage ServerExtensions on a fresh e-smith 5.5 for test purposes and believe me...Don´t do it!!!

I got it up and running and I set up the site with the SE-webadmin and everything was fine. BUT I couldn´t access the servermanager, I couldn´t see the standard SME welcomepage when I entered the servername/IP in a browser.
I could though access a POP3 account but the most wierd thing is: When I got to work today I couldn´t do anything not even access the SE-webmanager which I used ysterday to configure the SE. Not even after a reboot of the whole server. So over night it has brokendown....that´s wierd!!!

So my advice to all of you who asks about FrontPage ServerExtensions on E-smith is: DONT DO IT!!!

And apparently I´m not the only one saying this and believe me. All the others are right about it. It´s not just for fun they are warning you.

FrontPage server extensions for Unix are known to be buggy and full of nasty security holes.  Or at least they were a year or two ago.  I don't believe things have changed all that much.

Besides the security issues with them - they have an even more alarming problem:  Installing them on a server *encourages* users to use FrontPage to design websites.  As if the web doesn't have enough bad HTML already!

Ha ha...You are so right!!! But sometimes you need to do what your customers ask you to ;o)
