_All_ versions of Linux support multiple CPUs out of the box. If you install SME Server, at boot you will see a dialog for choosing single or SMP boot. By default, it will boot in SMP mode.

Alle SME Versions older than 5.6 only Pentium III as SMP.
Newer Pentium IV and Xeon-CPUs only with Kernel 2.4. (SME 5.6) in SMP.Mode ( btw., Haperthreading, looks nice; 4 CPUs with two "newer" Xeons)
But you can use "newer CPUs" on every SME-Version in UP (Single-Processormode).

Kewl, thanks all..
Carnt wait to see how this baby runs with 2 Xeon 550's and a gig of ram.
Next investment is a Highpoint raid controller methinks..
Thanks again one and all..

Rubbish.....my 5.5 installation runs quite happily on two PentiumPros and there are quite a few other users on this forum with a similar setup.
