Guys...
Somewhat upset / concerned / perturbed here regarding the IMAP server on my 5.6 box. I really like the e-smith server so far and absolutely plan on using it for some time to come as the more I read about it (the documentation) the more I learn and the more I like, BUT....
I just discovered something that has me twitter-paited. ;(
I have been looking for an IMAP server that I could use to store my mail on at one centralized machine as I move around from machine to machine on a regular basis. I live in one part of the state (Upstate N.Y.) and work in another part of the state. My work situation is such that it is to far for me to commute - thus I stay in the location where my work is during the week, and come home on weekends/holidays. I have machines at both ends. (pc's) I have lots of mail that I reference frequently and have it organized into different folders. When I first discovered that the e-smith server could provide the IMAP services I have been looking for I was (and still am) thrilled! So.... I moved all of my mail from the evolution mail client that I've been using on my RH 8.0 machine to the e-smith directory structure. Been using it like that for a week now. My thinking is that I would like to get away from Evolution and just settle on Mozilla as I can use that on anything - Mac, Windows, Linux, etc.... and still see/get al of my mail.
NOT. ;(
I get home tonight, fire up my wifes PC, install Mozilla on it and I cannot see any of the directories (folders) that I placed on the IMAP server! None. ;( Grrrrrrrrrrr....... I can see my inbox . I can read mail from my inbox. I cannot see any of the folders I created at all...
I know that I can use the web based interface, but I really want to use the IMAP on a full mail client. I have my wifes machine cfg'd to dual boot into linux - I fired that up, started Evolution, pointed it at my IMAP server and all og my mail is visible - folders and everything.
Two questions then I guess: Is/has Evolution done something propietary to my mail ??? (I thought it was supposed to be standard mbox format) If so - anyone know if/how I can export mail out of Evolution and into Mozilla? ( I would just pull it all back in when I get back to my work location and do the conversation.... ) Just to further test this and make sure that its not a Mozilla issue, I cfg'd my wife Outlook client (Outlook 2002 full client from Office XP) and it looked/behaved just like Mozilla - no folders. ;(
Ideas / suggestions anyone?
Thanks in advance...
