Linux..SME/Redhat 8.0 Nat..firewall..port forwarding !

This sucks..... - pardon my french.

Why CANT Linux just not port forward anything..??

If I nat or portforward on my Cisco827 i works like a charm - I know it is not the same comandos...but..

If I portforward on SME 5.5. or 5.6 or on Linux redhat 8.0 with iftables ..or webmin interface...I JUST DOESNT WORK...it sucks.....

Lets say I want to forward my FTP port to another server...I just doesnt work when I try to telnet my linux server which should forward the request to my FTP server on the inside lan...... that goes for http and mail etc...!??!

Does anyone know where to find a step by step guide og instruct from someone who actually got this to work..?? I would prefer if I could get it to work on a SME 5.6 server. But redhat 8.0 is ok.

Any good gui or web interfaces outthere..so it font go wrong... - og pacakages rpms that forwards..

Thanks again.

Install the RPMs and you'll have a Server Manager panel to control TCP and UDP port forwarding.

Oops, I was thinking that was for forwarding, but it's only for opening. http://myezserver.com/downloads/mitel/contrib/portforwarding/ is what you want for forwarding. I haven't tried 5.6 yet, but the old version works great on 5.0 and 5.5. You are testing from outside your LAN right? You can only forward from the external interface...

Hi Bill

Thanks for your input.

I think I've tried it from the outside....I'll give it a try again.

If I want to FTP..what about the FTP setting on the SME server..?? Diabled..?? Private.. or public...?? From the server-manager what should the setting of the FTP server be..?? I want my gateway SME server to forward FTP to my internal FTP server ..and NOT the FTP on the SME server.

Thanks.
