Hi There.
Setting up a web server is quite simple on e-smith server.
Login to e-smith using your browser (on another networked pc). Next use "Create starter web site".
After you go through the motions directories are created at:
/home/e-smith/files/primary/. The directories are html (the key dir), cgi-bin, and files.
The files for your simple home page are in the html directory.
Any machine on the net can access your home page at
www.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx , provided you have a static ip (and permission to serve pages from your e-smith pc. Many ISP's do not allow web servers on ADSL.
The /home/e-smith/files/primary/ directory on e-smith can be mounted as a network
drive on a Win98 machine. Then, any html creator can be use to change, or modify the basic pages created by esmith. If you are new to HTML you can use MS-Publisher to create some usefull pages. Yeah! I know! But, like I said, if you are now getting started with html.
My web server has been running for several weeks using e-smith and SDSL. If you need any other info just ask.
