SME 5.6 Updates
« on: February 20, 2003, 08:27:12 PM »
I have noticed in Mitel Docs that they make referance to 2 Updates for SME 5.6.  Are these updates only available to Blade Subscribers?

According to the e-smith web site, Blades have been removed from the developers version of the software but we are still supposed to be able to obtain updates via ftp download.  I have not been able to locate these updates for download.  Where are they?

They would/should be at
ftp://ftp.e-smith.org/pub/e-smith/updates/

but I do not see any there.
What doc are you specifically referring to about the 2 updates for 5.6 ?? Please supply a link.

There are no updates posted there for V5.6, and there is actually an Update #4 for V5.5 also posted on Mitel eDocs.

There are 4 documents (listed below) that refer to updates that I am unable to locate.  E-smith states that Mitel has taken over SME server 5.6 but will continue to provide downloadable updates.  Mitel makes referance to updates (I assume they are in some sort of a Blade) but e-smith has not made them available thru ftp downloads.  Here are the documents that I am talking about:

http://edocs.mitel.com/6000_SME_Server/Web_Access_Control_1.2.1_Release_Notes.htm

http://edocs.mitel.com/6000_SME_Server/5.5_Update4_Release_Notes.htm

http://edocs.mitel.com/6000_SME_Server/5.6_Update1_Release_Notes.htm

http://edocs.mitel.com/6000_SME_Server/5.6_Update2_Release_Notes.htm

The following is a quote directly from the e-smith web site:

"Blades
The Blades web panel has been removed from the server manager as we have chosen to focus all blades-related development on our commercially supported products. Updates to this developer release will continue to be made available as downloadable RPMs as they were prior to the introduction of the blades interface. Commercial customers will continue to be able to download both updates and additional applications as software blades."

What gives?

As you have correctly identified the blades are now only provided for supported software for Mitel commercial customers.
I would say that the attention is presently focussed on the needs of commercial paying customers and at a later date when Mitel staff find time any necessary updates will be released on their ftp site for "us" to use.

It's all free so we can't demand the updates immediately. Perhaps some of the updates only apply to the supported software anyway, which has considerably more features than the "unsupported" developer release.

I'm sure some updates will come later.

The 5.6u1 blade for the 6000MAS was released before 5.6-unsupported was released, so the 5.6-unsupported ISO includes Update 1 already.

5.6u2 was only released this week, and will be appearing on the FTP site soon.
