ftp download from web page link
« on: February 26, 2003, 08:06:35 PM »
I am setting up a new web site. One page allows the user to download files with clickable links. I am not clear on the path for the link.

I have set up an Ibay for the public files and placed the files for download in the "Files" directory. I placed the web site in the Primary domain. Web site navigation is working fine.

What would be the path in HTML? I tried something like this:

FreeStuff.zip

Also, what is the appropriate setting for the Ibay public access to accomplish this?

TIA,

Thanks for the tip, Jon. I made the changes, and the form makes sense to me, now that I have read the doc's a couple of times.

However, when I attempt to download a linked file from the browser, it responds with a 'server not found' message. I have a call into the authoritator host to double check the zone record.

In the meantime, I have a couple of questions I hope are releated.

1. Is there a permission I need to set on the primary domain to allow FTP a la iBays?
2. Is it necessary or useful to enable DNS on SME for local activity?

I don't think so and I could be wrong, but do make sure that you have the necessary filter enabled in your router. If you don't the router will not
allow the page to be found.

As far as necessity, maybe, Useful? definetely. If you use your sme
as both the dns and dhcp servers, (providing you turn the dhcp server
off on your router) you will be able to access your sites on the sme
server with yourdomain.com. Which is a lot better than 129.16.10.0.
Oh, and you should also set your sme as the domain controler as well.

Good luck.
