Hi all,

I have 4 questions:

1. Is it possible to turn off the mailserver in SME? I don't need it, so there's no need to have it running in the background.

2. The PHP version in SME is kinda "old". Is it possible to upgrade to the latest version, without killing the entire system?

3. Also the MySQL version is pretty "old". Is it possible to upgrade to the latest version, without killing the entire system?

And 4. Apache. Same question as 2 and 3. )

The only reason for these upgrades is because I'm probably going to need all the performance I can get from this server, and as far as I understand, there's a significant performance difference when upgrading these 3 parts, especially MySQL and PHP.

Now I know I could just do a Slackware install, and then upgrade as necessary, but I really love the ease of things when using SME, I'm just mighty unsure about upgrading the software..

Have you checked the howto's? I believe there are howto's available on upgradeing components. What version of SME are you running?

Take a look at contribs.org/LinkBase.  There are links to howtos and files for all of your upgrade requirements.
