Topic: distribution of emails?

Im supporting a community association, and want to help improve communications.

What Id like to do is have a number or distibution lists for emails. Ideally a single external email coming in would then be sent back out to everyone on the list. Id like those allowed to send mails to the list to be controlled.

Does anyone know how this can be achieved? I have sme 5.5

secondly my server is on a dialup connection. my emails would all come/go through my ISPs email service. We have a web domain that is registered and webspace online hosting the website. Can we have email sent to someone@ourdomain redirected to my server which only uses dialup? I do have a dynamic dns setup if that helps. or I do have my own unlimited email boxes ISP email account.

You need a mailing list manager.

As you only have a dialup line, then I suggest you search for "ezmlm" on contribs.org

Ezmlm works well and I have set up quite a few lists (small & big) with it

Mailman at Shad Lords site is also a viable alternative although I have not used it, but a lot of good things have been said about it.

Keep in mind that with any mailing list manager, if you have lots of names on your lists and you send a message to them, then your modem will be very busy while it send a message to every recipient. It gets worse if the message has a decent sized attachment, your rmodem could be busy for hours. Commonly you would send a small text message, with a link in it to the particular document that you want recipients to see, that way keeping your email traffic down as much as possible.

It gives recipients the option to look at and downlaod the file only if they want to.
