Was curious. Did some sleuthing around in what goes for my records. The 3rd SCSI drive (very small but fast) was only used for testing previous SMEs.
The drive wasn't in current *use*. It wasn't manually mounted or defined in fstab, but it was hooked up in the SCSI chain ie it was available to the OS but not a user...
AFAIK it has always been the 3rd drive and it's certainly the 3rd drive in the SCSI ID sequence (sdc) (0x82). This is very probably *the drive* that the LILO *reporting* as being *unavailable*. Sort of adds up. It used to boot in the old days via the Adaptec 2940u2w's boot-from-menu.
This situation has existed for at least a year. Update2 seems to have added some unwanted susceptibility. Maybe you can use this background information to some helpful purpose:-)
