Topic: Upgrade 5.5 -> 5.6

I have been trying to upgrade my production SME 5.5 to 5.6.  I thought the server had been very stable but having typed upgrade, it gets to the point at which is checking which packages to upgrade it does a hard reboot.

I took a backup before starting this exercise but reading the forums suggests I cannot install clean and restore the data.  Am I doing something wrong and/or what other options do I have?

You can do that. You will have to reinstall any addon packages, but all your user data will be restored.

If you haven't already, you should check out the bugs people have found with 5.6. Mostly VPN, but that may be a necessity for you...

I don't have any addons loaded at the moment so I think I'll go for the clean install and then restore.

There appear to be no know bugs with 5.6 upgrade.
