Selective Restore

Hi,
Having problems with restoring a 5.5 backup onto a 5.6 system. It will run thru the restore procedure, but never give me the "restore complete" message. Then if you reboot, you get an error message about not having a complete restore operation.

So, is there a way to pull just the users email out of the tar file and get it into the correct directories?

Thanks

Ray Mitchell

If you are speaking of a backup/restore to/from desktop, then I assume that you Verified your original backup file in the server manager panel. No use trying to restore a corrupt backup file ??!!

My understanding of the restore process is that it can take an awfully long time to complete ie potentially a few hours or more. There are some very big files (>1Gb) being created in temporary memory etc and depending on the hard disk space, memory and speed of your server, the process will take a lot of time. There have been a lot of posts about this on these forums, Charlie Brady confirmed the process can be very lengthy.

So my suggestion is try again and wait, wait, wait. How long you wait is the unknown quantity, but I guess if you leave it overnight or for a full 24 hours, then one would expect it should have completed by then (or crashed).

Alternatively if you load WinRAR or similar on a Windows workstation you will be able to open the backup archive and do a selective restore of certain files to the server.

Hope this helps
