How do I access the CD Rom?

I've got SME Linux installed with a soft RAID as it doesn't recognise my raid card as other than a handy device upon which two independent drives are installed. That seems to work well.

Now, how do I access the CD? I found ls will list all the files in a directory. Now I want to access the gnome2.2 program from the cover disk of Linux Format (April 2003 edition). How do I do this? I gather it gives a windows style environment that I can use to set up the rest of the system.

The only ATA Raid card that is natively supported is the 3ware Raid controller,  the others Promise, Highpoint, Adaptec, require drivers installed to function correctly.

As for the gnome thing, good luck...E-Smith is designed not to be graphical.

You access a cdrom by typing
mount /mnt/cdrom
at the root promt. You can then access the cd's contents in the directory /mnt/cdrom/. When you're done, type "eject" at the root prompt. That will unmount the cdrom and eject it.

surely if you want graphical linux, you'd install it (ie go to your computer store and get RH8 or Susie or whatever or download the ISO's online.

If you just want a server 'appliance', then SME.
