Thank you, Orville. I would really appreciate step-by-step instructions, as I have not found any dialogue including Host, Domain and DNS-servers.

Ok! Here we go.

Did you install e-smith server? If not we can deal with that in another thread.
I am assuming (ouch!) you have the e-smith Control Console open on the server.
Choose 2. Configure this server and gateway.
Choose to proceed.
E-Smith will take you through (a) the NIC card settings - eth0 & eth1.
You can decide here which nic will be internal and which will be external.
(If you are using nic card & modem then someone else can cut in and assist.)

Next is the server mode: Server & Gateway (dial-up or dedicated),
Server-only (dedicated), or Server-only (no Internet).

Next comes the DHCP (I use static ip on all lan machines - choose #3).

This is where e-smith will ask for the IP address for INTERNET CONNECTION.
If you have two network cards (nic) one will use the IP address assigned by
ISP. Next is the "netmask" - just like WINDO$E. This is normally 255.255.255.0
for a small lan.
Next comes the ISP gateway ip address (supplied by your ISP).

HEY! I missed half of that reply! (??????)
Here is the rest of it. Cont'd:

The e-smith internal nic ip address comes next (I use 192.168.1.1) & netmask.

Next you can choose DHCP (On/Off) for local lan. If your lan uses static ip's
DHCP off.

Here come the "real" domain name entry. If you DO NOT have a registered
domain name use your ISP assigned IP address. Next comes the server name
of your choice (I use server2). This purely internal to your lan.

NOW WE ARE REALLY SMOKING!
At this time you will need the ISP supplied DNS server IP's (Prim & Secondary)
 - just like WINDOZE 89(1/2). (What are you laughing at?)

Here you need to know if your ISP is using a PROXY server at their end.
(A few ISP's do - most do not).

Finally, you have the e-smith preamble, yada, yada......
