Using a E-Smith 5.6 with the samba 2.2.7a-1es1 Update in Server-Only Mode on a Celeron 633 machine with a 3com 3c905b-TX NIC.
As client I use may laptop computer with inbuilt SIS900 NIC.
Situation:
When I transfered 2 big files (>500Meg) at the same time trough ftp I got 2.2 MB/sec transfer rate. The same happened when I copied them over the Windows Explorer (e.g over 4min copy time). I changed NIC's from Realtek to 3Com, updated from SME5.5 to 5.6, enabled hdpamr, applied the samba update and tried nearly every tuning tip I got hands on for smb.conf - but nothing helped.
Then I accidently turned off my Sygate Personal Firewall and MAGIC the transfer rate went up to 6.6M/sec! I defined a rule to allow all in- and outgoing traffic from/to my SME machine and did some more testing.
With one file, there is no problem: it flies with 6M like it should. But transfering 2 files at one time still cause transfer rate loss down to the magic (like it seems) border of 2.2 Meg/sec.
Now my question: Is there a way to limit the number of files transfered at one time so I can get full transfer rate?
thanx for replies
