No, the port forwarding contrib you have won't work, due to the change to iptables. However, there is a new version available for 5.6, so yes you will still be able to achieve the same results.
I don't know for sure, but I think the multi-pop still works, or there's an updated version available.

Using Trillian doesn't change anything; it still uses the ICQ protocol. I know there are some NAT modules that haven't been converted to the 2.4 kernel yet. I'm not sure how this affects ICQ's operation on 5.6.

You can use IMAP and POP3 at the same time. However, POP3 can only access the inbox. There's really nothing to configure, except start using an IMAP client. I prefer IMAP as it allows the server to sort mail into folders (I have procmail calling SpamAssassin for checks only, and dumping spam into a "Spam" subfolder without modifying it at all). It also means all your mail stays in one place. You don't have to remember if you checked your mail with your laptop or your home PC or your work PC. It's all on the server, so they can all access all of the messages.
