5.6u4 upgrade question
« on: April 27, 2003, 09:53:13 AM »
I installed the rpm installer and I am about to update SME 5.6u3... But the FTP folder updates/5.6/update4/RPMS/ contains 19 files?

Do I have to update all 19 or just SMEServer-5.6_Update4-02.noarch.rpm?

Thanks!

Andy

Andy,

You need to copy ALL the files to your server and log in to the server as root.  You should use the following commands and let rpm determine the proper files to upgrade and the proper order in which to install them.

rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs *.rpm
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

This way everything should be installed and updated properly.

Good Luck

Ahaaaa...

mkdir upd
cd upd
wget -g on "ftp://ftp.e-smith.com/pub/e-smith/updates/5.6/Update4/RPMS/*.*"

rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs *.rpm
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

That was easy... Another victory for the newbie:)

Thanks guys!

I second that motion, SME opened the door by reducing the angle of the learning curve.

Upgrades are cumulative, FYI. Many of the "Update4" files are the same ones that were in Update3, many of which were in Update2, etc. You only *need* to install the ones that have changed since Update3, but the easiest way to do this is to just grab all of them from the current Update.
