Is it possible to create a samba share accesible by all user
« on: April 30, 2003, 02:48:20 AM »
Hi,

I'm new to e-smith, I just installed SME 5.6.
I want to use it as a file server and I want all the users in our LAN
to have read/write access to particular directory (in order to share documents). Right now every user can access only his/her home directory only.
I couldn't figured it out how to create using the web interface
(http://mycompany.com/server-manager)
a samba share accesible by all users.
Is it possible to do that via web interface or the only way is to telnet
to the server and edit samba configuration fiile.

Samba is configured to work in a workgroup (not in a domain).

Thanks for the help in advance!

Paul

Create a ibay.

Under group set it to everyone if you want everyone to have access or pick a group if you want to restrict access to a particular group.

Make sure you set the correct access rights.

Bingo, you're done.

Now your users can either browse in "my network places".  They will find a new network share in their workgroup under the sme server or you can "map" the ibay as a network drive if you need to.

Good Luck,

Paul

Sorry, I should have been more accurate.  In the server-manager go to "Information bays", this is where you set up shared directories.  It will imulate an NT server.

This is covered in the manuals, so have another read, either online at e-smith.org documentation link under 6000 Managed applications Server or in the documentation folder on the CD.
