Minimum Install

I was thinking of using solid state memory instead of a normal hard drive (namely a large compact flash card and IDE adaptor).

I am using my SME as an email server primarily, with no file sharing and web hosting. What is the minimum install size I am likely to have with SME 5.6? I know the minimum specifications are a 1Gb HDD.

I will probably allow 200mb for Email storage and handling. Would a 512Mb Compact flash card be large enough do what I am thinking?

Thanks
Damien

I just did an 5.6 install on a 1Gg disc, ISTR that the screeen thatt shows what packages are being installed and the progress had a total size of around 560Meg...  Pity the rest of the machine wasn't up to it, a P133 and 48Meg RAM doesn't let severmanager run.

Cheers
Dave.

The used space on my 5.6U4 server is 581Mb. It is just acting as a gateway and email server, and the mail is downloaded off the server by users (pop) and there are no data files on it either. So I think you may need more than 512Mb.

Installing on CF may not be quite as good an idea as it first seems.  This is from the IPCop list archives...

There are also other issues with FLASH, FLASH can only
be written/erased 1000000 times. With /var/log in FLASH
you can expect it to only last about a year. With swap
in FLASH (being used) probably 3 months.

CF is slower than HDDs as well but that may not be a problem for you
Hope this helps

With the newer versions (5+) I had to upgrade from my 540Mb to a 1 Gig.
I think that I am using 700mB right after install.
