Is there a way in SME 5.6 where I can determine how many pages a certain user has printed over a specified period of time?

We would like to add a color laser printer to the network, but want to charge people for its use according to how many pages they print.

Can SME 5.6 do this, or is there an add-on / customisation that will do this?

Thank you,

Kees

I don't think you can do that with raw printing, but CUPS will do page accounting if you set up a filtering printer queue and print through PostScript drivers on the network hosts. I made a CUPS contrib for SME, which you can find at mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rvandenaker/. Please contact me directly if you want to give CUPS a try (my email address is in the howtos), because I'm working on added functionality that makes sharing of filtering printers to Windows NT/2K/XP hosts even easier than it already is.
