Topic: mail server password not accepted

I deleted an e-mail account (don't ask me why), and then recreated the account under the same name.  It is crucial that I get this account working - here is the problem:

After recreating the account and setting the password, I am able to log in to the account using the webmail app, but Outlook and Outlook express both pop up asking for a password.  The correct username and password are provided, but they don't work.

I've tried resetting the password from a console window using passwd, no luck.  I'm running 5.12.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I searched the forums for quite some time and found nothing helpful.

Try looking at some log files:

tail -f /var/log/secure
tail -f /var/log/messages
tail -f /var/log/maillog

Run all three of these while trying to login, hopefully, it should yeild some useful information.

Did you try recreating the accounts in Outlook and Outlook Express?  What happens if you type the new pw in these clients?
