Printer does not work anymore after upgrade to version 6.0b1

I had connected a HP Laserjet to the LPT1 port of my server, which worked fine.

This morning I upgraded my server to the latest development version, but there seems to be something wrong with the way it handles the printers, because I cannot use it anymore.

I tried to remove it from the server manager and re-installed it, even unplugged and plugged the printer again, but no reponse whatsoever.

If I try to install a new printer from my workstations (1x Win2k, 1x WinXP) the printer is not listed when I browse for network printers on the server.

Anybody an idea? Anybody else who ran into the same problem?

      NOTE: This is a developer preview. Do not install
      this release on  production servers. Please report all

When printing via SME there can be two structures involved.

Firstly, if you run a test print from the Linux command prompt then its testing the lp setup.  When printing to a network printer from a Windows box you are also including aspects of Samba.

If the lp test works but the Windows/Samba doesn't then it normally means you have a corrupt /var/cache/samba/printing.tdb file; deleting this file and restarting lpd should sort it.

Try out the LPRng extension to manage the queue & report back here if it work succesfully.

I have found that printing to an SME (5.1.2, 5.5, 5.6) printer using Win2k or XP, using LPR (custom setting for TCP/IP printer port) works much better than connecting to the samba printer.  Be aware that the default TCP/IP settings for 2k/XP is jet direct port 9100 which has to be changed to LPR which is port 515, and you have to enter the printer que name and put a check in the 'LPR byte count enabled' box.
