The easiest way is via IMAP.

Log into both simultaneously and using any IMAP-supporting email client (Navigator, Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Mulberry, Emacs, *whatever*) copy the email from one to the other.

If you were planning to recycle your Exchange server as an E-Smith one then copy from Exchange to your client and then finish the transfer when you've got the E-Smith server up.

There are lots of other clever ways but this is the easist.

As you know, Exchange stores mail by default on the server so as soon as you wave goodbye to it your mail goes too. There is a tool called Exmerge which is on the Exchange CD - when run, it can export all your users mailboxes to seperate PST files to a folder of your choice, you can then import each PST file into your clients Outlook once they are configured to collect mail from your SME box. You can do this whether you use POP3 or IMAP.
I've done this and it's a great timesaver - Exmerge is a very good tool. Pity I have no need for it anymore!

But the PST's will still only be on the client computer correct. When I access twiggi from a web browser I won’t se my mail will I.

Thanks for your help thus far guys.

USE

Copy email from Exchange to E-Smith *directly* using IMAP and any IMAP client.Simply open a window displaying your Exchange emails (the source.) Then open another window (yes Outlook can do this as well as any other IMAP client) and display your E-Smith folder (the destination.) Select the emails (all?) on the Exchange server and drag them over to the E-Smith one. Repeat as needed. Can even drag-and-drop entire folders.

OR

Copy email from Exchange to E-Smith *indirectly* by saving in a mail file. The easiest method would be with Exchange/Outlook's PST files. Create a local PST on a client machine (or use a tool from the Exchange toolset) and copy the emails to a PST. Once the E-Smith server is ready then upload the emails from the client's PST file to the E-Smith server using IMAP. Just drag and drop.

DON'T FORGET

For address books the easiest method would be to copy the entries to a client PST file and then importing directly from there into Twiggi. Another option would be exporting from that local PST into other formats like CSV and then uploading that file.

OTHERWISE

There are many others ways of doing all of this. If you're just doing a few folks the above ones work fine, there are other strategies for lots of users.
