Spam Filtering / PopFile
« on: June 28, 2003, 12:57:26 PM »
Hi

I have had some considerable experience using Popfile on a Windows machine and have found it to be an exceptional spam filtering tool. I have had a good look around and I can't see much on the e-smith site about using it. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience using Popfile on e-smith and how it was to use in this environment.

Also, I would like to do virus scanning if I can, which Popfile doesn't do, but it would be good to get that in the same application if possible. Is anyone aware if such a thing exists? Otherwise I am happy to run two seperate applications but what is the best virus scanning application?

Cheers and thx in advance.

Hi

I don't know of a package that does both but I think most people on here use spamassassin to filter spam. It really is very good and I highly recommend it. I don't quite understand why its not built into the system tree by the development team but I am sure there must be a good reason why its not included and maybe here is not the place to be asking such questions.

For anti virus I have heard clamav is good and there were some people doing scrpts etc to help with the somewhat complicated (for newbies anyway) installation process. I am using version 6 beta 2 and am waiting till its been around a bit more and somebody has worked out how to install clamav on it. As with the above I really wish there was a built in pre-packaged anti-virus option as I am sure most people who use this firewall/server need (or feel the need) for it. But again I am sure there are good reasons.

Hi

If you look back through the archives you will find a thread where I was helped to set up spamassassin. You will probably find all you need to know in that thread.

Same goes for clamav - and there is also a handy info page at http://www.pagefault.org
