Topic: Multiple Network Cards

Hi, i have an e-smith server (5.6) with 3 network cards in it, yet no matter what i do i cant find a way to get all three to be recognised. Linux itself recognises them as they all turn up in /proc/pci, and the correct entries are in /etc/modules.conf, however running ifconfig only ever tells me about eth0, eth1, and lo, with no mention of eth2. Anyone know what the problem could be and how to fix it? does e-smith even support more than 2 network cards?

I don't know how you would get SME to "use" the card, but try

ifconfig eth2 up

Then see if it is reported by ifconifg.

Thanks, for the advice, my machine now sees all three network cards, its still having a few problems, but nothing i shouldnt be able to handle

I have a situation in which the client has secured a second ADSL line, and wants to connect both lines to SME box, in case of line fallover (this is Africa). Can I set up in the /etc/sysconfig/network file, a second GATEWAY?, and if the one ADSL router does not resapond, SME will use the second?

Nexland had a dual WAN router (800 pro turbo) for this purpose.
Its now bought by Symantec and sold as "HotBrick" dual wan firewall/router ($500)
If redundant WAN is critical for the busines I would look into this box.
