Topic: HELP!! Domain name and cgi email forms

ok, im having 3 major probems..

1. When i install SME (5.6) if i put the primary domain as bbhs.com, nothing will work. If i take the .com off it then it works fine (intranet works fine by displaying a web page etc).  What should my domain be if i want BBHS in it? Also, why is it the System name that i type into the browser to show my intranet?


2. With that aside, i have set up some form mail using CGI. With the help from this forum i have been able to get the cgi working well (i think). But the email (form) doesnt get returned to my webmail (intranet). eg. My email address (intranet) is jasonf@bbhs   .  Ive set my cgi to send it to jasonf@bbhs but it doesnt arrive, no erros though.

3. Virtual domains are not working for me. Ive added a virtual domain to the above domain  ie. BBHS. The virtual domain i added was bbhs.com, or , test.com. When i go to my browser and type www.bbhs.com, it finds nothing. but if i type just "www" in the browser it works.

Please help. Im a teacher trying to set up a intranet for a school.

Jason,
          I think that you should start by building your server again.

In the setup make sure that you type in an original name for your server (the first part of the FQDN), so if your FQDN is gold.bbhs.com your server name would be gold.  You should be able to type in

http://gold

and your servers home page should appear, likewise to get the server manager type

http://gold/server-manager

Also make sure that you use private ip addressing because this will mess things up for you if you don't get it right.  Best one to use on a small network is setting the Server IP to 192.168.0.1

Now when it asks what is the domain name you should put in there (as per example above)

bbhs.com

Once you have this setup properly from the start you should not experience any problems.

OK,  i followed your instructions even to nameing the server gold. But it wont work. I reinstalled the server, gave the System name gold, gave the primary domain name  bbhs.com  and nothing will work. When i type http://gold nothing happens. When i type http://gold.server-manager nothing happens. When i change the Primary domain to just bbhs, it all works.  When i ping the server  (192.168.0.1) it sees the server fine. when i type http://192.168.0.1/server-manager  it does nothing

Please help, i dont want to give up on E-smith..
