Anyone have instructions for an idiot on how to set up an email server on my emsith gateway ??

Hi puck

The e-smith server features a great email server (based on Qmail) that supports POP3, SMTP and IMAP protocols.  

When you create a user account, that action also automatically creates an email account for that user (user_account_name@yourdomainname).

The manual has simple detailed instructions, and the v3.1 manual is available for download (v4.0 will be up on Monday)  However, in short:

To create a user account, you access the e-smith manager at http://www.e-smith.yourdomainname.com/e-smith-manager

(for version 3.1 it's just: www.yourdomain.com/e-smith-manager)

Go to user accounts, and follow the instructions from there to create a user account.

Yourdomainname is the domain name that you entered in the configuration wizard.  

Don't forget that you have to ask your ISP to publish MX records for your domain  so that mail addressed to your domain name will be routed to your e-smith server.

I had this going with 3.1 now 4.0 has thrown me for a loop

Cant get to e-smith-manager from outside my network ..(ie the Internet from work)

This is by design--for security reasons, you aren't supposed to be able to access the e-smith-manager from outside the LAN.  How did you manage it with 3.x?  In 4.0, you could set your IP address from work as a "local network" address in the e-smith-manager, but even that probably isn't the safest thing to do.

I changed allow 192.168.x.x in /etc/httpd/conf/access.conf to allow all

I know its not safe Just playing for now
